Change the Canadian System

Change the Canadian System

By

James Bredin

According to their statistics, Canadians love being taxed,
Though forbidden to change the social system we’re quite relaxed,
Tax-and-spend politicians can fool around and double their pay,
Travel to exotic places that are very far away any day.

An election, maybe every five years, makes everything great,
No referendums, no recall where only politicians debate,
So we walk in lock step for five years of their mistakes,
Can’t change a thing no matter how much it pains or aches.

In this cult of no-change we all behave like a flock of sheep,
Being led to the scandal slaughter house and there’s no need to weep,
Proportional representation will never be allowed,
You will tolerate, first past the post, and stay quiet and cowed.
