War Torn Places

War Torn Places

By

James Bredin

UN peacekeeping in Rwanda, Somalia and Srebrenica failed,
The same thing happening in Afghanistan so time we bailed,
Peacekeeping is a nice name for a war and we all agree,
But without a front line and lines of coffins on nightly TV.

We need referendums and recall for politicians now,
A system to change and not have to wait till we’re allowed,
Why should we behave and believe like we’re half asleep?
Democracy means nothing when we act like a flock of sheep.

Wall to wall propaganda we are fed both day and night,
Politically correct and pompously polite and so right,
And if you have to think about this, you are obviously wrong,
So quickly and quietly believe and join the gung-ho throng.

The UN has other peacekeeping places if we only concur,
The usual war in Somalia the Congo or Darfur,
The UN has a list of other places they’d like to interfere,
Call it peacekeeping on some war torn distant frontier.
