Peacekeepers everywhere

Peacekeepers here, There, Everywhere

By

James Bredin

Should we send peacekeepers to a sick epidemic place?
To do good for the UN or another human race,
That has AIDS malaria, cholera and TB,
It’s such a righteous thing to do, we all agree.

And African dictators say they need this assistance,
Need some rebel heretics killed for resistance,
While their Swiss bank accounts jump by leaps and bounds,
Could these terrible events be as crazy as they sound?

Could our soldiers catch malaria cholera or AIDS?
Bring them back like unexploded hand grenades,
Could they pass these diseases on to other people like you?
Is this supposition, superstition or true?

Did it happen to UN peacekeepers somewhere before?
Is this known or has the UN decided to ignore?
Like the Saddam-oil-for-food scandal swept under the rug,
Are we all on some UN hallucinogenic drug?
